Annual Rev. Charles R. Williams Cancer Awareness Run/Walk

Do you know the disease that actor Robert DeNiro, baseball executive Joe Torre, golf legend Arnold Palmer, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and military icon Colin Powell all suffered from and survived?

Each had prostate cancer.

And each beat the disease.

Actually, it is not too surprising the quintet defeated prostate cancer. Most men do. Statistics show that 91 percent of men who have acquired prostate cancer can outlast the slow moving disease if it is discovered early and treated correctly.

Indeed, the discovery is critical to survival, and that is one reason why the Annual Rev. Charles R. Williams Cancer Awareness Run/Walk will be Saturday, September 27 at Quaker Park in Westfield. Proceeds from the annual run/walk will support the operations, testing and education services offered by the Rev. Charles Williams Prostate Cancer Mobile Unit that services the public throughout Central Indiana.

Information for the run/walk appears at thatmenmightlive.com or by contacting Kathy Jordan at 317-446-8771. Enter in advance or before the 9 a.m. start of the event that will take place in Westfield’s Quaker Park at 17501 Dartown Road. The Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, Anthem and the Department of Health are sponsors.

Statistics show that one out of six males in the United States will have prostate cancer. It is projected that more than 240,000 will become inflicted with the disease in 2014. More than 32,000 will die from prostate cancer this year, but over 2.5 million males in the United States have survived the disease.
