FHS Teacher Spends Week Experiencing Congress as House Fellow

Fishers High School social studies teacher Deborah Hejl said “one thrilling moment succeeded another” during her week as a House Fellow. She was one of 10 teachers from across the United States selected through her local Congressional district to spend July 30-August 3 in Washington, DC, when the House of Representatives was debating and voting on key appropriations bills. See ‘Royal Court’ and More at Fishers Freedom Festival June 23-24

The 19th Annual Fishers Freedom Festival will be Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, and a variety of fun activities are planned throughout the weekend. The Fishers Freedom Festival’s Royal Court will be crowned on Saturday during the opening ceremonies. Official duties for court members include riding on the Royal Court’s float in the festival’s Children’s Parade (sponsored by Northpoint Pediatrics) at 10 a.m. and in the Main Parade at 4 p.m. (both on Sunday, June 24). Teachers Volunteer for ‘Homework Help’ Sessions in Apartment Community

Hoosier Road Elementary has 12 teachers volunteering time to help students with homework in the Cumberland Crossing Apartment Community Room each Monday and Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. Principal Donna Meadows said as many as 40 HRE students live in the development, and the buses can easily drop off students with parents’ permission right at the site. The volunteer teachers are from Grades K-4, and three usually work with students at a time. The rotation means each volunteer comes once every other week. Competition Jump Rope Teams to Make Appearances

The Indy Bears competition jump rope team will perform at four HSE elementary schools on behalf of the American Heart Association to inspire students to participate in Jump Rope for Heart campaigns.
