Reorganization not on November ballot

Johnson County Courthouse AnnexThe Johnson County Election Board ruled today that the Greenwood/White River Township Reorganization proposal will not be on the November ballot. White River Township Board President Greg Rainbolt, who attended the election board hearing, said the board was looking for a positive response from both parties before they would place it on the ballot. No one spoke in favor of the proposal appearing on the November 2012 general election ballot.

The board recognized that the group had missed the filing deadline in 2010, when the plan was at least somewhat accurate. Now, two years later, there are many items in the proposal that are either very inaccurate or impossible to implement, such as Greenwood starting to provide services in 2011. Another factor in the board’s decision was the resolution passed by the White River Township Board. This was the WRT Board’s first action and it called for the repeal of the reorganization plan. You can get the details on the WRT vote, with video, here.

Rainbolt was the only person who spoke to the reorganization at the meeting, sharing the Township’s opposition to the proposal. With no one advocating putting it on the ballot, the election board “saw the light” and decided to let it die. The Reorganization effort, that has been going on for nearly three years, is now officially dead.
