Destination: Fishers Weddings

With the beginning of June comes wedding season. As a wedding planner, I love the excitement that the summer brings – especially the joy of a wedding.  Weddings found me; becoming a wedding planner combined everything I loved. I was able to become an entrepreneur, plan amazing events, help brides, and work in an industry that advocated something very dear to my heart – marriage!

One of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process is the dynamic of bringing together a group of wedding professionals who work together to create a beautiful day. For many couples, however, this is the most stressful part. They don’t know where to go to find vendors or they are inundated with the multitude available. Living in an amazing town like Fishers, there are so many great resources available.

The Hawthornes Golf & Country Club

HawthornesThe Hawthorns Golf & Country Club will be celebrating their 20th anniversary next year. They have a classic ballroom that is available to rent to the general public for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Weddings at The Hawthornes are managed by Kelly Letzer. Kelly has been in the event-planning business for 9 years, and she loves working with clients to create customized menus and seeing them enjoy their event.

The Hawthornes is a full-service catering venue with an elegant and personalized ballroom with windows over-looking the golf course. They also provide an outdoor ceremony location with gorgeous landscaping. Kelly says she enjoys personalizing each event and tailoring the menu, décor, and the planning process to suit the couple’s style.

While Kelly experiences many weddings each year, the moment that brings tears to her eyes almost every time is the father of the bride’s welcome speech. “It’s always so incredibly endearing to hear the father speak about how proud of his little girl he is at that moment.”

Kelly has one piece of advice for brides: “Relax, trust your professionals, and enjoy every moment of your special day – it goes by so quickly!”

Simply Perfection Cakes

Simply Perfection CakesRose, the owner of Simply Perfection Cakes, has a great cake studio in her home open by appointment only. When you walk in, you are welcomed by the sweet smell of cake. In 2008, Rose lost her job. With the encouragement of her children, she started her own business making and decorating cakes.

Rose offers free tastings and consultations to all brides so they can taste a variety of the cakes and fillings she has before booking. She makes both buttercream- and fondant-iced wedding cakes as well as cupcakes.

Simply Perfection Cakes is a boutique bakery, and Rose tries to give each of her customers the personal touch.  She takes the bride from the design stage through the delivery and set up of the cake.  Rose uses only the best ingredients producing a very flavorful, moist, delicious cake with a long list of “to die for” homemade fillings.

McNamara Florist

McNamara FloristI went to talk with Amy Alexander, the wedding contact at McNamara – on Allisonville Road between 116th and 126th Streets. Amy has 30 years of floral experience, and the McNamara design department staff has upwards of 25 years of experience. Amy loves the creative challenge of pulling together beautiful floral designs considering the budget, colors, and style of each bride.

McNamara’s provides everything from small orders, like bouquets and boutonnieres, to large $40,000 wedding orders. At McNamara, you will find personal service in a small shop combined with the access to a wide range of resources of a large corporation.

Amy advises brides to know their wedding colors, book their venue, and choose their dress before going to the floral appointment. Amy notes that it is alright for a bride to not know much about flowers, but she encourages them to research and look around to find what they do and don’t like. “Don’t just pick the first thing you see and say, ‘That’ll do!’”

AMS Indiana

AMSAMS is an entertainment company that has been in business since 1984. Indiana owner Jason Ryan has been with the company for almost 10 years. Weddings have always been the main focus of their business. They encourage their clients to think outside the box and they help them create a uniquely-defined event based on their style. They meet with their clients to get to know them and understand their vision.

AMS Indiana is a one-stop shop for your entertainment needs: DJ, MC, karaoke, photo booths, event lighting, game shows, video slideshows, audio/visual rentals, and casino parties.

Being a father to two girls, Jason personally loves the father-daughter dance. “I can relate to what that father must be feeling looking into the eyes of his baby girl on the happiest day of her life.”

Jason recommends meeting with your DJ prior to booking him/her to make sure that person can direct your event and keep the guests moving. “In our industry, you truly get what you pay for.” He says to make sure that they have backup systems in place for both the DJ and equipment. Make sure they are properly insured. You want your wedding to be about you and not your DJ.
