JeffHernJeff Hern, Fall Creek Township Trustee, has filed to run for Hamilton County Council in the May 3, 2016 Republican primary.

Hern, serving in his second term as Fall Creek Township Trustee, has worked diligently to serve as effectively and efficiently as possible by an increased level of collaboration with other government bodies, schools and community organizations. Fiscal responsibility remains his top priority, while providing the best services to residents.

“My experience has prepared me to take this next step to county council,” said Hern. “I firmly believe in fiscally conservative government and would like to continue my efforts on a county-wide level to better serve our residents. As Trustee, I have worked to financially balance services provided with available funds and partner with other organizations and groups as to not put additional burden on our residents through additional or higher taxes.”

Hern has proven his commitment to fiscal and community responsibility in his service as Trustee. In his first year in office, he took the Township to a debt-free status where it remains today. He has consistently lowered the tax rate (12.56% reduction since 2011). He has improved fire protection by purchasing a tanker truck, ambulance and rescue boat for the Fishers Fire Department with absolutely no debt. Hern has formed partnerships within the community with Youth Assistance Program and HSE Schools Vocational Adult programs. Under his guidance, the Township has developed other programs such as the annual backpack program, financial classes, coat drives, etc. without using tax dollars. In 2014, Hern initiated a $193,500 restoration of 6 abandoned cemeteries and secured the purchase of two park properties with an overage of taxes collected from a previous administration.

“As a Council member, I intend to hold fast to my strong beliefs of fiscal responsibility and accountability to the residents I serve,” added Hern. “Balancing the needs and concerns of our residents with financial stability remains my top priority.”
