Flava Fresh ! Multicultural Art Exhibit Comes to Fishers

Writer / Kara Reibel

D. DelReverda-Jennings is an artist in the truest sense of the word. As a child, her grandparents identified her as an old soul, creating works of art far beyond her young years. Encouraging this wonderful means of self-expression, she was guided and supported to cultivate her artistic inclinations.

A prolific, award-winning interdisciplinary artist whose visual work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Canada and the Caribbean, DelReverda-Jennings has select pieces held in a number of private and corporate collections. To give back to the arts community, DelReverda-Jennings created the Flava Fresh ! art exhibition series to celebrate newly discovered, emerging and established artists, as well as female artists who are beginning to gain a presence in the mainstream arts world.

14457625272_56a3077492The Fishers Arts Council is thrilled to be hosting this art series, which began over 15 years ago (originally called “Celebration of Spirit”). Other host sites include the Artsgarden and Clowes Hall. “The Flava Fresh ! Art Exhibit is an incredible collection of eclectic and exciting pieces,” says FAC Board Member Paige Hunkin.

Flava Fresh ! is an annual juried, multiple exhibition series celebrating the visual arts. The multicultural exhibition experience extends over a six-month period with five separate showcases, culminating in an artists’ awards ceremony at the end of the series, held in October.

“This year we are blessed to have been invited to exhibit at the beautiful Fishers Town Hall,” says DelReverda-Jennings.

The series offers an opportunity to those artists whose work falls outside of the mainstream and is seldom, if ever, found in traditional art venues. The goal is to bring awareness of these diverse artists to the public.

What began for DelReverda-Jennings over 15 years ago has now become a part-time endeavor for her. Well-connected in the national arts scene, she has helped launch many artists by gaining positive exposure for their work. “It is all part of my initiative to cultivate artists and art connections, in addition to all of the annual exhibitions,” says DelReverda-Jennings, “and this validation is important to help the artists reinforce their belief in their work, creative voice, growth and career development.”

Flava Fresh ! can be found on Facebook and the IndyArts website, indyarts.org. The exhibit runs from July 14–September 6. Viewing is free to the public.
