Alex, I've noticed here at Townepost that people respond to gifts.  Raffles, prizes for referrals, lotteries for lookers, you name it, there are somemany things you can do.  But my suggestion is: pick something that's a low cost traffic maker.  The punchtab option that Tom (Britt) uses seems to get people involved and keeps people coming back.  It also brings about referrals too.  I'm not one to copy, but a good friend of mine told me, "If you see someone doing something successful, find out how they did it and do it better"!
