Following the annexation of Geist into the Town of Fishers, a $2.5 million fund was established for capital improvement projects over the next three years. An all-volunteer board consisting of nine Geist residents will research and propose to the Fishers Town Council the best ways to spend this money. A full story is here.
What are your ideas? Submit them here, we'll be passing along all submissions to the committee for their consideration!

Permalink Reply by Susan Spafford on January 11, 2012 at 5:07pm I would like to see some money allocated toward improving the water quality at Geist. I know there is the Watershed Alliance group, but we also need to set aside some funds to actually enforce some standards for quality control. I know that Missouri just enacted a law where boats are checked before launching to make sure that zebra mussels, etc. do not come from other bodies of water and contaminate their waters. California lakes require a higher grade motor oil in all watercraft, which decreases the pollutants in the water. We also need to educate residents about using phosphate free cleaners and fertilizers.
My other idea would be to landscape the round-abouts, similar to the way Carmel has done. Our whole area could use improvements in landscaping of public areas.
Permalink Reply by Erin MacDonald on January 12, 2012 at 10:36am I commend the Town of Fishers for setting aside this money to improve our community. This is a great way to enhance our neighborhoods. I am also greatly appreciative that they are soliciting ideas from residents. I have a request that is near and dear to my neck of the woods. I would really like to see a sidewalk installed along Fall Creek Road from the Fall Creek Damn Park to 82nd Street. I live along this road and constantly witness the dire need for a safe pathway here. As you are aware, Fall Creek is a very busy, curvy road that has a very narrow shoulder and is surrounded by trees. I often see people walking, running, and bicycling dangerously close to fast moving cars. Often, these aren’t just adults – they are also babies in strollers, children, and pets. A sidewalk in this area would greatly improve our community and decrease the danger to pedestrians. I am very passionate about the need to improve safety with a sidewalk here. Please let me know if you need any volunteers to help make this happen –my name is Erin. I can be reached by phone at 312-342-4352 or by email at erineni@yahoo.com
Permalink Reply by Brian Patrick on January 24, 2012 at 9:48am How about instead of the empty lot at Arbor Village, they give up on making that another strip mall area that we don't need and return it back to a park. Perhaps a skate park, or community pool similar to Carmel's Monon?
Permalink Reply by Wendy Morin on February 6, 2012 at 2:43pm As a frequent walker on the sidewalk along Fall Creek road north of 96th Street to the bridge over the lake, I am sick and tired of either having to step out of the way for, or getting hit by, people riding bicycles. That is a pedestrian SIDEWALK. Not a bike path! The path does widen over the main bridge to accommodate bicycles as well as pedestrians, but people on bikes continue on down the sidewalk regularly and cause it to be unsafe for its intended purpose: pedestrian foot traffic. I would like to see bike lanes/paths/added along Fall Creek road so that the sidewalks can be given back to the pedestrians.
Permalink Reply by Elaine Schultz on February 10, 2012 at 12:54pm There is a need for a sidewalk along 106th between Geist Road and Hawthorne Ridge. Many people who live south of 106th Street like to walk in Hamilton Proper, especially on the nature trail north of Hawthorne Ridge. This includes families with strollers and young children on bikes. However, because of the hill and curve near 106th and Hawthorne Ridge and the speed at which some people drive this stretch, it is not safe. I am concerned that someone walking or biking through this stretch is going to be hit by a car. A sidewalk would greatly improve the safety along this stretch of road.
Permalink Reply by GAY RUDE on April 9, 2012 at 9:06am I would love to see a side walk or a berm ( or something safe) added to 113th street from olio rd. out towards 238. They widened part of the end of 113 (over the Hancock cnty line) but most of the road is very narrow- We have lived out here for 5 years now and we ususally have at least 1 deadly accident a year on this road, due to how narrow it is & how close to the road the trees are. This is a very busy road and I see bike riders and runners and mothers pushing strollers trying to use the road too. We have Dump trucks daily (hourly) because IMI is located at the end of 113th, and our road is the one they use to go pretty much everywhere in the Fishers / Geist area. You haven't had excitment until a dump truck has literally run you off the road and into the bushes. The edges of the road are all broken up and falling away leaving deap areas to step in and wreck your bike in- because of the heavy use from the loaded IMI trucks. Anyone know how to get anything done about this?
