All around Geist Lake there is a sidewalk for use except along Fox Road.  It is fun, and sometimes neccesary, for residents to have a foot/bike path to get to the corner stores, such as Marsh, Sweet Treats, Geist Bakery.  However, for residents from Feather Cove I and other residents along Fox Road to get to the local town center on foot requires braving about a mile of dangerous road.  I've already seen pedestrian accidents along Fox Road.  How many more will it take before we get a safe sidewalk along this section of road?  Many are seen walking around Geist Lake, enjoying going down to the local town center.  Folks along Fox Road would like to join in on the fun!

It has long been recognized that a sidewalk along Fox Road is essential to pedestrian safety.  Especially with the overhead canopy of trees, and east/west orientation, the dappled lighting can make it difficult to spot walkers, runners, and bikers.

Quite a few (10?) years ago neighbors from the Feather Coves and other surrounding neighborhoods went to the city to try to get a sidewalk built.  A hearing was held at the City-County building, which I and many others attended.  A spearhead group of neighbors had a funding plan and everything worked out.  In the end it got scuttled by a few (but very tenacious) homeowners along the north side of Fox Road who said they were worried about an increase in crime if a sidewalk abutted their properties.  I think in reality it was more that they were worried about a loss of privacy and easement.

I think the majority of homeowners in the area would still very much like to see a sidewalk happen--preferably segregated at least a little bit from the roadway--but it will take a concerted effort to get around the few obstructionists.

Trey:

Thank you for the reply.  Hopefully, the people who opposed, 10 years ago, have changed and can get passed objections to a sidewalk along Fox Road.  Seems like the law of Eminent Domain based on Public Safety would apply well here.?

Many would like to see a side walk happen.  Erin MacDonald wrote in about the much needed sidewalk along Fox Road on the " Ideas for the Fishers Impoundment Board: http://www.townepost.com/forum/topics/ideas-for-the-fishers-impound...

"I commend the Town of Fishers for setting aside this money to improve our community. This is a great way to enhance our neighborhoods. I am also greatly appreciative that they are soliciting ideas from residents. I have a request that is near and dear to my neck of the woods. I would really like to see a sidewalk installed along Fall Creek Road from the Fall Creek Damn Park to 82nd Street. I live along this road and constantly witness the dire need for a safe pathway here. As you are aware, Fall Creek is a very busy, curvy road that has a very narrow shoulder and is surrounded by trees. I often see people walking, running, and bicycling dangerously close to fast moving cars. Often, these aren’t just adults – they are also babies in strollers, children, and pets. A sidewalk in this area would greatly improve our community and decrease the danger to pedestrians. I am very passionate about the need to improve safety with a sidewalk here. Please let me know if you need any volunteers to help make this happen –my name is Erin. I can be reached by phone at 312-342-4352 or by email at erineni@yahoo.com"

I understand that this is a hot topic for the Kids at Amy Beverland School.  ABE has one of the best Dad's Clubs around!  I would be willing to bet their is enough man power around here to dig a sidewalk along Fox Road by hand.

Morgan,

I live in Feather Cove and agree it would be nice to have a sidewalk to Marsh and or Kroger/McDonalds area.

I created a facebook page for Feather Cove residents to communicate about things just like this.

I think we need to stay in contact with the city and keep the ball rolling on the issue.

Let me know if I can help in any way!

Ditto from the folks in Echo Pointe. I'd like to see some kind of path too. You should probably go see Dean Jessup, the new mayor. He lives down the street from me in Echo Pointe (not that I have any influence or anything) but I know he'll know exactly what you're talking about so the timing might be good. At least he'll be able to tell you what steps need to be taken to get it done. Good Luck!
