I am excited to announce my campaign for Woman of the Year in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)!
It’s a 10 week competition that kicked off Feb. 26 between ten candidates around central Indiana, including me and my Geist running mate, Tom Britt.
When we were asked to participate, Tom and I decided to team up for the effort since we live in the same community; you might say it was a first for LLS, but we all know there’s a lot of firsts with Tom Britt!
I’ve had some interesting experiences when it comes to fundraising, during my many years at WTHR–13 and the “Bob & Tom” radio show. I donned an apron and juggled pies for cookbook photos published by Channel 13 to raise money for United Christmas Service. I strapped myself in for a bungee jump that was live on the radio with Bob and Tom to raise money for the Humane Society of Indianapolis. There were some crazy ideas that raised some crazy funds.
But, on a less harrowing note, I ran for the first time in the Geist Half with Team Luke where I ended up learning about cancer research underway today.
I lost a childhood friend and classmate to Leukemia while growing up in Ohio and often wondered how today’s cutting edge research could may have helped him back then.
So, when LLS asked me to join the campaign, I jumped at the chance to help out. I don’t know if bungee jumping will be involved these days, but we are planning to hold some fun events that I hope you all will take part in and support! Look for a sushi roll to be named after our campaign at Red Sake to get us started!
