Walmart Commercial Shot at Mama Bear’s

Writer  /  Christy Watson

What’s a budding young actress burnt out on the pursuit of the big Hollywood dream to do upon returning back home to Indiana? Why not start a YouTube VLOG of course? Also known as a Video Blog, it is the newest medium for reaching a market of well, basically anyone who comes across it on YouTube. Gabrielle Flowers-Rader and her husband Chad Rader have turned the fresh and young YouTube Vlogging concept into “GabeBabeTV” and what is now their sole career.

The couple who both graduated in 2000 from North Central High School as strangers began their courtship over a wireless network while Rader was a defense contractor in Afghanistan, and Flowers was pursuing her dreams after graduating from Tennessee State with a degree in theater.

What started out as tutorials by “Gabe” on how to make wigs with a group of her friends, garnering over 1,000 followers, has grown to include Rader (affectionately titled “Babe”), their son Chad Jr. and over 160,000 followers who tune in to watch the ins and outs of their family life all from a wireless network just a click away.

“People are growing tired of reality TV and all the scripted drama,” says Chad. Family Vlogging is real stuff. People like to see real stuff.” Other popular VLOGs on the YouTube market include the “Shatards,” “Prank vs. Prank” and “Tyler Oakley,” each of which have over 100,000 subscribers. There is room to grow with YouTube. It’s a relatively infantile marketplace that is definitely drawing the attention of advertisers.

Walmart recently just reached out to Gabe and Babe to be the first spokes-couple plucked from YouTube for their new “Straight Talk” Wireless plan because they liked the positivity and the content of the message of GabeBabeTV.

Bringing the whole production crew to Fishers at the end of May, they filmed Gabe and Babe as they Vlogged at various Fishers establishments including Brooks School Park and Mama Bear’s Bakery & Café! The commercial airs nationally and has already been spotted airing during “The Today Show” on local affiliate WTHR.

So what’s next for this YouTube Vlogging sensation? Hopefully more with Walmart and Straight Talk for the holiday season and an upcoming trip to VidCon in Anaheim, California, with other “Influencers” that are hoping to make their way onto the wireless networks of just about anybody who has interest.

For now, they are blessed to be doing all of this from the comfort of their own community and gaining followers and subscribers to GabeBabeTV every day.
