Easter Conservation Services has been serving Indiana and neighboring states for the past 17 years, specializing in the conservation and restoration of paintings, frames, furniture, textiles, ceramics and other artwork, as well as onsite archival framing and matting services. Founder and owner Jean Easter feels the company’s tireless dedication to its craft has made it a leader in the industry for nearly two decades.
“The only way I know how to approach a project is to do it 100 percent correctly and properly, which is actually rare in this business,” says Easter, who spent 11 years at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in frame restoration prior to officially launching her own business in 2001 on 54th Street near the Monon Trail.
From cleaning and tear repair to hardware and backboard replacement, Easter handles all manner of art restoration and conservation, from fire- and water-damaged pieces to antique paintings and photos that have been damaged through neglect or rough handling.
“We’re equipped to deal with just about anything related to conservation and archival methods,” says Easter, adding that her company adheres to the standards and ethics of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. “And if we encounter objects that are beyond our ability or someone needs something appraised, we know who to send them to.”
Easter and her full-time staff members Gina Golden and Warren O’Connell, both of whom hold art degrees and are highly trained in conservation methods, also conduct residential and commercial site visits for art consultations.
“My staff is so dedicated to what they do, and I try to support and nurture them in any way I can, including having them go to industry shows and training regularly,” Easter says. “I think that comes through when people walk through the door – the fact that we love what we do. The thing that I like to impress on my staff and clients is that art should be enjoyable, and it shouldn’t be an agonizing process.”
