Business Spotlight: H. Josephine Home

Writer / Megan Jefferson

Broad Ripple is known for its diverse restaurant scene, fun nightlife, family-friendly activities and eclectic art. Locally owned retail shops make for a truly pleasant shopping adventure. Who doesn’t enjoy popping in and out of the stores, finding unique gifts for friends, family or your home?

H. Josephine Home, just opened across from Cake Bake in Broad Ripple Village. This gem of a boutique offers antiques, art, home décor furniture and accessories.

Mandy Skelton, owner, curator and founder of H. Josephine Home, lives in the area and loves Broad Ripple for many reasons – the old and new construction, the art scene and all there is to do here with her family and friends.

“I am drawn to places that have a lot of soul and pieces with a unique story,” Skelton says. “This includes furniture, accessories and art. I think many people are craving this, something that is not so mass market. I wanted to create a different shopping experience that feels unique to Indianapolis.”

Design is a passion of Skelton’s. While she was looking for soulful pieces for her own home, she cultivated connections with designers and artists all over the world and now features their items in her store.

Skelton believes in the power of the perfect piece for a home. She values the beauty of a piece’s design, the comfort of its touch and intrigue of its story – a piece that calls out to you.

Focusing on these values, Skelton sells items such as heirloom quality throws from Saved New York. They are handmade in Mongolia, designed by a designer in New York, who is inspired by vintage pieces or museum quality art works. H. Josephine Home also works with The Garvey Simon gallery in New York City. Owner, Liz Garvey is an Indianapolis native and helps Skelton source unique artworks from artists represented by her gallery. Skelton also works with local artists, featuring their hand-made ceramics pieces and art.

H. Josephine Home offers design services, too. Lauren Riley is an interior designer on staff. Riley has worked in the industry for more than 10 years.

“We work really well as a design team,” Skelton says. “We are inspired by the client’s vision and are happy to create layered and timeless living spaces that are authentic to each customer and reflect their design aesthetic.”

Visiting this one of a kind boutique feels like you’ve stumbled upon a charming European shop. The furnishings and artwork that are sourced from all over the world add to the magic and beauty of the space and will bring heart and soul to anyone’s home.
