Business Spotlight: Dillon Legal Group

Writer / Matt Keating

Ryan Dillon is an attorney worried about the growing drug epidemic running rampant across Indiana.

Dillon, owner of Dillon Legal Group in Franklin, works on a wide variety of criminal defense cases. With nearly 10 years of experience practicing law in Johnson County, Dillon and his team of lawyers have seen it all first-hand, including repeat offenders and new crimes.

“For the past 30 years, the recidivism (repeat offender) rate has been constant,” Dillon says. “However, the rate at which new crimes are committed continues to rise. The drug epidemic doesn’t discriminate — it is affecting people across all walks of life. It’s absolutely terrifying.”

Dillon wants to find solutions that keep people from returning to their old ways. That is one of the primary points of emphasis of his campaign for Johnson Circuit Court judge.

“If we can implement programming that will rehabilitate recovering addicts and deter them from returning to a reckless lifestyle, we should see a decrease in vandalism and property crimes, an influx of productive members of society and an overall better quality of life for the citizens of Johnson County.”

The quality of life in Johnson County was the key draw for Dillon and his wife when they decided to start a family in White River Township more than 10 years ago. Here, in Johnson County, Dillon raises his three daughters and enjoys morning runs with the family dog, Oliver.

Dillon Legal Group handles a variety of criminal defense cases in Johnson County, including misdemeanors, sex crimes, murder, family law, minor estate planning, business law and civil litigation.

“I am a registered civil and family law mediator as well,” Dillon says. “I also have a fair amount of experience in niche areas of the law like annexations, class actions, trust litigation and appellate work. The Johnson Circuit Court is presently most focused on criminal cases and family law cases, so my experience fits the court’s docket well.”

When Dillon is not in the courtroom, he’s active in the Johnson County community. He also keeps roots with his hometown of St. Paul, Indiana, through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Dillon, an Eagle Scout, began his journey in Boy Scouts when he was a second grader and now is a leader for his home troop and volunteers at the council level.

Dillon has also served as the Alumni President of the council’s Firecrafter program, a camp-based rank advancement system to help scouts advance and develop the skills of friendship, leadership and service.

Both in his hometown and in Johnson County, Dillon strives to be a part of the fabric of his beloved communities. That’s why Dillon opened his firm in Franklin immediately after completing law school in 2008. Practicing law in a rural setting with a great sense of community was a very important factor when deciding where to open his firm.

“I didn’t go into law to get rich,” Dillon adds. “I chose to become a lawyer to make a living founded on helping people and serving my community. I am proud of the work we’ve done in Johnson County.”

Ryan Dillon will be having a campaign rally event from 7-9 p.m. May 1 at The Barn at The Bay Horse Inn, 1468 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood.
