Area youth will have an opportunity to perform in a musical this June when Center Grove Church will present “Godspell Jr.” The play is the story of Jesus and several of the parables that He shared with his disciples. Performances are set for June 6-8, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Center Grove Church is located just north of Stones Crossing Road on the west side of State Road 135.

Mark Landis, worship ministry leader at Center Grove Church and musical director of the play, said, “We had 30 students audition, from ages 8-18, and [we] are excited to bring this show to the Center Grove area. This is the first of what we hope to be more shows at Center Grove Church.” The play requires a cast of about 20, plus a production staff.

Kathy Phipps is directing “Godspell Jr.” She and her children have participated in Christian Youth Theater productions. When she learned there was not going to be a spring CYT show, she saw an opportunity for her church to offer an opportunity to present a play. Phipps, who taught musical theater and directed plays at Trinity International University in Illinois before moving to Center Grove, stated, “I am excited to direct ‘Godspell Jr.,’ bring in new people, and I believe the show will be a great benefit to the community.”
