Girls Inc. of Franklin won a $10,000 Impact Grant and more than $36,000 was awarded to local non-profit organizations during the fifth annual Pay It Forward Johnson County annual golf outing. Girls Inc. of Franklin won the grant during a drawing among 31 agencies that participated in the event hosted annually by The Legends Golf Club.
Sonya Ware-Meguiar, CEO of Girls Inc. of Franklin, said the money will be used for an upcoming capital campaign. “We are thrilled,” she said. Girls Inc. of Johnson County serves more than 400 girls through our daily after school programs and summer day camp.
Tara Treatment Center, Abuse Counseling and Education Inc., Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, Youth Connections of Johnson County, Haven Sanctuary for Women and Flags for Greenwood were selected to receive $2,500 each. A record 31 local charities applied for the drawing.
Nearly 140 golfers participated in the event, which also included a memorabilia auction. Proceeds are divided equally among Johnson County not-for-profits. To date, Pay It Forward Johnson County has raised more than $162,000 for charities.
Presenting sponsors this year were The Legends and Spotlight Strategies. Title sponsors were Hilliard Lyons: Bryan Epperson, Lyman and Loren Snyder, Pepsi the official soft drink of the PGA and the PGA Tour.
