Stuff the Bus Event to Collect School Supplies for Fast Track

Johnson County Stuff The BusUnited Way of Johnson County will be collecting school supplies for Johnson County children at their annual “Stuff the Bus” events, which will take place on July 12, 2014 and August 9, 2014.

At each of the participating stores, an empty school bus will be parked outside. Members of the community will bring their supplies during the designated hours, and volunteers will pack the bus with the donated supplies.

The following stores will be taking part in this year’s Stuff the Bus: McDonald’s in Trafalgar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Walmart in Franklin and Greenwood from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., both Kroger stores in Greenwood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on July 12 only, Sam’s Club in Greenwood will be stuffing a trailer with supplies all day long.

Stuff the Bus is part of UWJC’s Fast Track, a countywide school readiness program which provides backpacks, school supplies, and other items to help low-income students be prepared for the first day of school. Last year, UWJC was able to provide supplies to 2,273 students.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s Stuff the Bus events. Fast Track is an important program for us and it has positively affected thousands of students in the community. In order to have this same impact in the 2014-2015 school year, we are asking Johnson County residents to consider donating supplies to this worthy cause,” said Nancy Lohr Plake, Executive Director for United Way of Johnson County.
