Step inside the new Z&R Design and Accessory Shop in Fishers, and just take a moment to savor the visual heaven that has been created with the various paint colors and techniques on the walls.
The new home accessory shop, located at 9940 Allisonville Road, has everything from paintings to accessories to furniture and lighting. I was invited to the preview party on Feb. 22 and was very impressed with the company and the owners.
Owner and designer Heidi Zoeller-Hubler graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Interior Design. She moved to Indianapolis two years ago and joined Hoosier Enterprises, where she handled the interior design of long-term assisted living facilities. Her partner owner, Suzanne Patterson-Reed, graduated from Indiana State University with a Masters in Speech Pathology. She owns and operates Indiana Fitness Works. Together they make Z&R Design.

Z&R Design has three facets to the business. First, they have a design team that can develop either residential or commercial establishments. This part of the business is the design studio. This includes planning, layout of furniture (new or proposed), architectural details, electrical specifications or consultation, plumbing, exterior, fixtures, furnishings and interior finishes, project administration and, finally, cost estimates for your project.
Z&R is both commercial and residential. In fact, they currently hold the corporate contract with Magnolia Health Systems for its 26 long-term care facilities. Second, they have Z&R To Trade, where they service other interior designers. One of their exclusive lines of fabric is the Ralph Lauren collection. There is a library or resource room for designers to use as resources. Design firms may bring their customers in to choose and order items needed for their projects.
The third part of the business is the newly opened retail shop, called Z&R At Home. I have to admit that I was surprised at how unique the shop was. The home accessories offer wonderful gifts, and they offer gift certificates for those who are hard to buy for.
Artist Dan Robbins has quite a few pieces in the shop and told me that he likes to paint the “imaginary,” from big bright florals to places in nature that you think you have been before. He paints from the imagination, but it could be a river with trees or an old bridge in a local town. The colors and style make this artist a big stand out.
Bliss Edwards makes a showing in the shop as well. John Edwards and Christopher Bliss do a spectacular faux painting in the foyer. It looks as if you have stepped into a brick room, but look up because you won’t want to miss the mural on the ceiling. John and Christopher have done an exceptional job on the restrooms to give the studio a real home feeling.
As I browsed the open house, I realized how much work had been put into the opening of the shop. They were all very proud.
