Pumpkins, apples and festivals! Oh, my! There is no shortage of fun happening this fall around Hamilton County this year. To give you a break with planning, we’ve compiled the top things to do with family or friends. Celebrate sweater weather and the return of crisp fall air with these can’t-miss events.

Festival of MachinesSeptember 15-16

This event features vintage cars, aircraft, military vehicles, steam engines, firetrucks and tons of activities for kids. The Festival of Machines is a perfect outdoor escapade for the whole family to enjoy. Price included with general admission to Conner Prairie. Free for members.

Carmel PorchfestSeptember 16 1:00pm-5:30pm

PorchFest is a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. Featured will be a variety of musical acts ranging from acoustic to electric, solo to ensemble from a wide variety of musical genres that will perform live on neighborhood porches. All participants, including bands, homeowners and organizers, are comprised of volunteers from the Carmel and surrounding areas. Bring your coolers and lawn chairs!

Fishers OktoberfestSeptember 21-22

Fishers Oktoberfest is a free family-friendly event with events such as polka music, free kids games, arts and crafts vendors, German outfit contest Beer Garden and your favorite fair foods.

Russell Farms Pumpkin Patch Country Fall FestivalWeekends September 23 – October 29

This family-friendly event has lots of activities for all ages. Hayrides to the pumpkin patch, large 10-acre scavenger hunt corn maze, small five-acre scavenger hunt corn maze (with prize), petting zoo, miniature golf, pedal tractors, pedal carts for small children, teenagers and adults, giant play area for kids and adults, lasso a bull, merry-go-round, train rides, concession area to purchase food and lots of other great games and activities at a safe country farm atmosphere with many beautiful picture opportunities. Admission Charge ON WEEKENDS: $7.50 each, kids 2 and under free.

Stoney Creek 46th Annual Pumpkin HarvestSeptember 29 – October 31 10am- 5pm

Lots of family fun to be had while picking up your pumpkins. Check out the giant hay pile and petting zoo along with other activities. There is a $5 parking fee per vehicle Tuesday – Sunday. (No fee on Monday). Up-charge for events such as zip-lining, candle making, hayrides, pumpkin train, haunted house and other attractions.

Indiana Renaissance FaireOctober 6-7 10am-6pm

Step back in time with your whole family and experience the Golden Age of Queen Elizabeth I at The Indiana Renaissance Faire. There will be  costumed characters, full-contact non-choreographed jousting, period and pirate music, roving comedy, juggling, acrobats, knighting ceremonies, swordplay  and so much more. With 70-plus artisans and merchants, plentiful food vendors and free kid’s games, you’re sure to have a great time.

Pricing: Adult 12 and older $14, Youth (Ages 5+) $5, Wee Folk (Under 5) FREE, Family Pack (2 Adults & Up to 5 Youth) $35, Special $5 tickets for active and retired military personnel are available at

Headless HorsemanEvery Thursday – Sunday for the weeks starting October 11 and ending October 28.

Come out for an adventure on Conner Prairie’s haunted hayride where you’ll get chased down by the Headless Horseman! Other events include a seven-acre corn maze, barrel-train ride for little ones, 100-foot potato sack slides, challenging Halloween midway games, hilarious shows, bounce houses, mini golf, giant pumpkin plinko, pumpkin bowling and much more. Presale tickets are on sale September 5- October 11. Thursday & Sunday Ticket: $13 / ALL MEMBERS GET IN FREE (No ticket required for all members.) Friday & Saturday Ticket: $17 / PLUS-LEVEL & MEMBERS GET IN FREE (No ticket required for plus-level and above members)

Boo Bash- October 26 6pm -8pm on the Central Green.

There will be a sensory-friendly hour from 4pm to 5pm. Boo Bash welcomes children of all ages to the Nickel Plate District for safe trick-or-treating, games, activities and live music. Each booth at Boo Bash will have giveaways and activities for children ages 3 and up. No registration is required but parental supervision is.
