Former Fishers Resident Goes Hollywood

Writer  /  Pat Carlini

Local Fishers resident and Indiana University graduate Brenden Hill is celebrating the premiere of his first major motion picture! Hill is the producer of the short film “Walter,” which he worked on with Writer Paul Schoulberg whom he met while attending IU.

The film — which was shot in Los Angeles and around some popular Indy spots such as Fountain Square and the Speedway — premiered in March at the IMAX Theater in downtown Indianapolis.

The 32-year-old producer attended Hamilton Southeastern High School in the late ‘90s and says he was thrilled to see his work come to life on the big screen where he calls home.

“I was so excited for its release!” said Hill who is often told he could double for Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. “I always say it is the closest thing a man will ever have to birthing a baby! You work on something for so long, and then you see it on the big screen for all to enjoy. It’s just thrilling.”

Fans were thrilled with “Walter” at the Palm Springs Film Festival earlier this year where the film got some very good reviews. “People came up and told me they could really relate to the character, and they felt like they saw themselves on the big screen,” said Hill. “And that is exactly what a good movie should do.”

“Walter” is a 94-minute movie about a ticket taker at a local cineplex who, at 10 years old, made a deal with God to get his father into heaven.

“It’s a comedy, but it tugs at the heartstrings at times,” said Hill who explains how they lived an emotional roller coaster themselves as Schoulberg lost his father during the making of the film.

Hill says since he and Production Designer Michael Bricker knew Indianapolis well, they decided to shoot some scenes here. Schoulberg told audiences that a lot of filmmakers don’t shoot here because “Indiana is one of those states that doesn’t have a tax break for filmmakers,” but he hopes to see that change in the future.

Hill is awaiting word on more theater showings, but in the meantime, viewers can enjoy the movie “Walter” now in digital release to download at home.
