HSE’s Janet Chandler Receives Sagamore of the Wabash Award

After more than 35 years of teaching at Hamilton Southeastern High School, along with over a decade of playing a key role in the school’s top-ranked We the People team, Janet Chandler was awarded with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash award during the annual We the People team dinner Feb. 21.

I was shocked as I had never ever thought I would be recognized in that way,” said Chandler.

The award is the highest that can be bestowed by the governor, and was given to her by former student and local Indiana State Representative Todd Huston. Previous recipients include David Letterman, Herman B. Wells and Jeff Gordon. Through her dedication to the school and students as well as her outstanding performance as the president of the Hamilton Southeastern Education Association, Chandler was well-deserving of the recognition.

“I want to keep participating in voter education and help the community in any way that I can,” said Chandler.”
