Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness talks upcoming State of the City Address, IoT Lab and More.
Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness had plenty to talk about in our monthly lunch with the mayor, namely his excitement for the upcoming State of the City Address on March 21.
“This year, if everything falls into place, it is going to be a really exciting rollout of our vision for 2018-2019,” Fadness says. “We are putting the pedal down and have some big ideas that hopefully excite the people of our city.”
The mayor was also joined by Rob Delaby, owner of Oasis Outdoor Living & Landscapes, and Chris Schulhof with RE/MAX Realty Services. Delaby talked about the importance of parks in the Fishers community and his company’s recent completion of the newly landscaped roundabout at E 106th and Geist Rd. Schulhof chimed in on the local lookout for the real estate market and says his team is running out of houses to sell with people continuing to flock to Fishers as the city grows.
With the recent openings of Topgolf, Portillo’s and IKEA and continued announcements of the city’s soon-to-come culinary center, The Yard, Fishers is full steam ahead with no signs of slowing down. Recently, the city announced the founding organizations for its innovative Indiana Internet of Things (IoT) Lab, which is set for a grand opening on March 21.
“At its base level, IoT is taking everyday objects that you use and applying the internet to it,” Fadness says. “We want to connect the things that Indiana does well to this new economy, which is big data and big technology. It is really transforming things.”
Fadness also offered an update on the 70-Acre Waterfront Park coming to Geist. The city is still going through the condemnation process with hopes of owning the land come summer.
“Every time I drive over the Olio bridge, it reaffirms to me that this area needs a park,” Fadness says. “We are excited about it and still committed to it but working through the process.”
The mayor has always had bold vision for Fishers, and he says that isn’t changing anytime soon.
“We are trying to provide experiences to the community,” Fadness says. “We have been making significant progress. I believe the schools are also still a huge driver for the city. At the State of the City, we are really going to touch on how we make sure that our schools have the same dynamic and bold vision that our city does.”
