North Star Vitamins & Health Center Provides a Nutritional Foundation

Writer  /  Jane VanOsdol

The simple thing is not always the effortless thing.

Clinical nutritionist and certified massage therapist Pamela Alboher-Ray, Ph.D., sees this frequently as she works with clients at North Star Vitamins and Health Center in Fishers.

“Prevention is not an easy thing to sell,” she said. “But it’s true: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

For Alboher-Ray and her staff of five, education is the driving force behind what they do. They’ve helped countless individuals over the years by emphasizing a good nutritional foundation. This includes vitamin D, vitamin B-complex and a healthy gut biome. Once the basics are in place, Alboher-Ray can troubleshoot and fine-tune the process if more help is needed.

With 40 years of experience, Alboher-Ray has expertise in many areas:

  • Whole food recommendations
  • Purification and rejuvenation
  • Purification and rejuvenationEnergy bodywork, including electro-acupuncture (no needles)
  • Energy bodywork, including electro-acupuncture (no needles)Aromatherapy
  • Aromatherapy
  • Thai massage

Professional and experienced guidance in implementing the following:

  • Diet
  • Vitamin, mineral, herbal, homeopathic, and neurotransmitter supplementation

The store is organized into sections, including Brain Support, Probiotics, Kids, Intestinal, etc. Safety and accuracy are foundational, as misinformation can be perpetuated in the natural health industry.  Alboher-Ray is available for office, phone, and email appointments.

The staff also offers classes to the general public.

“I think we are an amazing community spot and offer a great community service,” Alboher-Ray said. “Local doctors often recommend us to their patients.”

North Star has built a trustworthy reputation over the years by offering accurate information with excellent products at reasonable prices.

“We don’t oversell our clients,” she stressed.

Alboher-Ray has always been interested in health and thought she would pursue medicine. Two years into her college education, she found a summer job working in a hospital cancer ward as a receptionist.

“It was really difficult witnessing what I witnessed,” she said. “It didn’t seem like this was helping people.”

She took a year off from school and started researching natural healing modalities. Several professionals mentored her in the health food business, and she subsequently opened her first health food store in Castleton at the age of 24. Along the way, she earned her Ph.D. in clinical nutrition with an emphasis on blood sugar. She has never stopped learning and has thousands of hours of training along with certifications in many health modalities.

Natural Soap

One of her creative passions is hand-made soap. North Star carries a large selection of her soaps, which are infused with essential oils, herbs and other botanicals. The alluring scent wafting through the store attests to her skills. You’ll also find an assortment of gifts, cards, essential oils, herbs, and books.

The store also contains classroom space and a separate treatment room, which she dubs “the elephant room” because of its eclectic decor. She works with clients of all ages, and with her engaging, gentle manner, she has an affinity for children.

Overall, it’s Alboher-Ray and her staff’s desire to help others that keeps customers coming back to North Star. The store also provides a wealth of free information in the form of handouts and suggestions.

“We do have a long, educated history and really try to assist people,” Alboher-Ray said. “Come in and take advantage of the free help to upgrade your nutritional status.”
