HSEF Endowment Seeks Contributions to Invest for Future

The first few years of Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation (HSEF) work was spent fundraising for student scholarships and educator grants for the short-term. Now in its sixth year, the Foundation is conducting a special campaign in order to invest in the long-term.

Director of HSEF Endowment Fund Campaign, Paula Peterson has spent the first months in her new role contacting many individuals, businesses and organizations in the community. Her goal is to educate them about the importance of building an Endowment for the future of all HSE Schools. As money grows in the Endowment, the fund will have more income and allow the Foundation to increase teacher grants and student scholarships that are offered each year. Potentially the Endowment could fund other needs of HSE Schools.

In January of this year the Endowment campaign began in full force. “Our goal is to raise $1,000,000 in pledges by the end of 2007 to be paid over a three year period,” said Peterson. “As of the end of April, we have raised $165,000 in pledges to add to over $369,000 of funds that currently exist in HSE Schools Endowment.” These funds are managed by the Legacy Fund, part of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, which in 2006 had a 16.1 percent return on investment.

Besides immediate contributions, planned giving is also a way to build the Endowment. HSE Schools Foundation is establishing a Bequest Society to honor those who have named HSE Schools Foundation Endowment as a beneficiary in their estate planning.
