Amy Beverland Elementary Nurse Receives 2016 Pediatric Hero Award

Writer / Demi Lawrence

Linda Bailey, Community Health Network and school nurse at Amy Beverland Elementary, was awarded the 2016 Pediatric Hero Award by the Indiana Emergency Services for Children Program. Nominated by Lorrie Ramsey, Nursing Director with Community Health Network, Linda was rewarded for her efforts on January 26, 2016 when a bus went over the curb at Linda-Bailey-ABE-Nurse (2)Amy Beverland Elementary and hit two students and killing principal, Susan Jordan.

As a first responder, she tended to those who were injured by the bus and ensured that the over 700 students around reached safety and were dismissed. She was one of the last to leave the scene the night of the tragedy, being there for anyone who needed her assistance medically or emotionally.

Nurse Bailey has been a part of the staff at Amy Beverland Elementary for the past 12 years. In the days following the accident, she was a strong support system for the students as well as her colleagues, and Lawrence Township Schools are thrilled that she has received this honor.
