Boardworks Studio Offers Custom Designs & Fun Workshops For Visitors

Boardworks Studio Owner Darcie Hadley, a Fishers resident and Purdue University graduate, has always had a passion for art, design and working with people.

Boardworks Studio, which officially opened in October 2017, was named by a neighbor’s seven-year-old daughter, according to Hadley.

“I have always enjoyed designing and artistic crafts, social gatherings and the importance of making memories with friends and family,” Hadley says. “I decided [that I could] bring this all together and create a cozy atmosphere that brings friends and family together to create custom wood signs.”

According to Hadley, the custom wood sign designs are great for all ages and perfect for a special occasion, girls’ night out, birthday party, bridal shower, baby shower, date night and much more.

The company’s most-popular DIY workshop sign is a six-inch, reversible porch sign. Some other popular sign designs include Merry Christmas, Happy Easter, Happy Fall, Trick-Or-Treat, Welcome, Home Sweet Home and Welcome To Our Home.

“I started selling them on Facebook market sites and produced more than 400 by just posting Facebook images of designs you could select from,” Hadley says.

For one year, Hadley worked out of a 15×20 extra bedroom in her family’s home that she turned into a craft space before she decided to open a store of her own.

Now, the company is located in Fortville, a town that Hadley has loved watching grow and is only 10 minutes from her home in Fishers.

“There have been so many positive changes, from growing small boutiques, restaurants, salons and art studios, making Fortville’s quaint downtown setting pure Americana that some communities try to replicate,” Hadley says. “Main Street offers lots of activities for kids, parades, festivals and much more through the year so that families can enjoy time together making memories.”

According to Hadley, most shop owners in Fortville work together on special events to make everyone feel part of the community, while also bringing everyone together – a goal of hers, too.

The growth and success of Boardworks Studio has been completely organic.

“Our clients have given us great reviews, and many of our events have at least one guest coming back for another workshop,” Hadley says. “We have been able to schedule workshops month after month from nothing but referrals or posts off of Instagram or Facebook.”

Those interested in scheduling a custom paint workshop can book an event on at boardworkstudio.com. After scheduling, anyone attending the workshop can select from designs or create their own design, so it’s personalized for their space. Boardworks Studio takes care of staining, painting and framing all signs prior to the workshop event, as well as adding the custom stencil to the sign.

Boardworks Studio is located at 305 South Main Street in Fortville. You can give them a call at 317-459-6271 for more information.
