Fusion of Fitness: Jazzercise Geist

Writer  /  Jimmy Girot III

Passion and purpose are two words that won’t leave my mind after talking to Jazzercise Geist owner Heidi Tumbarello. When someone truly loves what they do, their passion is palpable. I spoke with Heidi about Jazzercise Geist and quickly discovered the source of their success:

What is your favorite aspect of Jazzercise Geist?

Heidi: The connection with and impact on the people who come to Jazzercise Geist. Jazzercise is the most fun workout, and it is sustainable over a lifetime. My customer base ranges from 15 to 82. I love what I do. I love the people around me, from my associates to my customers. I never get bored or tired, and it doesn’t feel like work to me.

What is Jazzercise?

Heidi: Jazzercise is a dance-based fitness program. It was founded over 40 years ago by Judi Sheppard-Missett.

How long has Jazzercise Geist been in the community?

Heidi: Jazzercise has been in the Geist community since the late ’80s, but I personally didn’t find Jazzercise until the early ’90s. I opened the Geist Center that is located on Fox Road in the Marsh Strip Mall on January 3, 2004. Prior to that, I held classes at Christ Presbyterian Church on County Line Road.

How did you get started?

Heidi: I began doing Jazzercise in the early ’90s. At one point, the instructor asked me if I would be interested in becoming an instructor. I attended an audition and the workshop in 1999, and I’ve been instructing ever since.

What makes Jazzercise Geist so consistent and so popular?

Heidi: Our program works! Jazzercise is a fun and effective way to stay fit. Our tagline is “Jazzercise is a pulse-pounding, beat-pumping, body-blasting fitness program that gets you results…fast.” It’s a high intensity dance party that fuses cardio, strength, Pilates, hip hop, yoga and kickboxing. All exercises are choreographed by a professional choreographer and reviewed for effectiveness by an exercise physiologist.

Jazzercise promotes a like-minded community where lifelong friendships are formed. Motivation comes in many forms and is the lynchpin for any successful fitness program. If you love to dance, if you love to laugh, if you love the motivation of group exercise, if you want to see results, this is the place for you!

Passion and purpose – pay Jazzercise Geist a visit, and you’ll see what I mean.
