Geist Lake Coalition Update On 2017 Treatment Program

Writer / Brian Hall

Cooler water temperatures this spring, along with heavy rains and muddy water, all resulted in perfect conditions to delay the Geist Lake Coalition’s first treatment. This allowed us to put off two full weeks so we could save our first native treatment for as long as possible. This will also allow us to do treatments toward the end of season as well.

We are treating on Wednesday’s this year and, to that end, we will commence today, May 24. That said, treatments will not stop on Sept. 27, as previously planned, instead the last treatment will be made on Oct. 11Today will likely result in treatment for algae only, except in problem areas, as aquatic weeds are off to a slower start for reasons described above.

The treatment map, as of May 23, 2017, can be seen above. If you don’t see your area on the map, please email us at geistcoalition@aol.com with your address and donation commitment. Once donation is received, we will will try to accommodate your late ask and include you on next week’s treatment, if not the following week.

Thanks go to all those who’ve contributed and all who’ve donated generously toward this effort. I also want to give a special thanks to superstar neighborhood coordinators, Jody Ruark, in Feather Cove III, and Keith Matthews, in Cambridge.
