Thanks in part to a façade improvement grant from the Zionsville Architecture Review Committee (ZARC), the Zionsville Lions Club recently completed Phase I of the Lions Clubhouse renovation project. The ZARC awarded Zionsville Lions Club $37,979 in grant money to update the exterior of the clubhouse, which is located at 115 S. Elm Street.
The ZARC and Lions Club worked together to upgrade the clubhouse to improve its façade and functionality. Updates include architectural stylings, color palette of the building and entry elements.
“We greatly appreciate the professional design input and financial participation in our project by the ZARC,” says Lions Club President John Wilkins. “The Zionsville Lions Club has served the community for 90 years, 45 of which are from our Elm Street building. These building improvements will support our service to the Zionsville community for many decades.”
“When the Town created the façade improvement grant program over a decade ago, its potential was untested since only a handful of communities were facilitating this type of economic development incentive program,” says Mayor Tim Haak. “Downtown tenants such as the Lions Club are fantastic representatives of the community and stewards of their buildings and park. The Town is proud of our long-standing partnership with the Lions Club and the impact of the façade program.”
Formed in 2009, the ZARC is an eight-person organization appointed by the Zionsville Town Council and is responsible for awarding grant funding sourced from the Food & Beverage Tax to facilitate its mission. The ZARC seeks to partner with building owners within the downtown to enhance the character of the community.
To date, over 25 buildings have requested to work with the ZARC to generate enhancements that benefit the entire community.
