It is with deep sadness to inform you that after 39 years of service, Commissioner Marcie Willhite passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Marcie served the City of Middletown with grace and honor for 39 years. She was kind to everyone and never met a stranger.

She loved the city where she was born and resided with all her heart. Marcie brought numerous events to Middletown – Light Up Middletown and the Spring and Summer Concerts to name a few. She worked tirelessly for the city she treasured.

It goes without saying that we who worked closely with her will miss her profoundly. May she rest in peace.

Marcella “Marcie” Willhite was a native of Middletown.  She was born at 230 Tucker Station Road in the family home built by her Father, Carl Crask, who was a carpenter, her Mother a seamstress.

Marcie attended Middletown Elementary and graduated from Anchorage High School.  She worked for The Travelers Insurance Company for fourteen years and in July 1962 married Carl J. Pudewill, an Electrical Engineer, and moved to his home in Chicago.  Her daughter, Carla Louise Pudewill was born in 1966.

After the untimely death of her husband Carl, in January 1972, Marcie returned to Middletown with her daughter.  In 1978, she married Ralph V. Willhite, owner of Willhite Funeral Home. Marcie also worked in both the Medical and Dental field from 1973 until retirement in 1998.

Middletown was reincorporated in 1979 and Marcie was appointed to the Council.  For 39 years she faithfully served all citizens of this community with pride, honor and integrity, trusting each time she made a decision or cast a vote, it was for the betterment of the community.

Marcie was active in many other community organizations, serving as President of the Middletown Civic Club, President of Middletown Inn Historic Preservation Corporation.  Vice President of Middletown Woman’s Club, member of Historic Middletown, Inc. and a Kentucky Colonel.  She supported our schools and worked with many of their programs.  Marcie served for 18 years as Treasurer of Middletown Christian Church where she was a lifelong member.

Marcie’s daughter, Carla Pudewill-Reid and her husband Nick live in the Simpsonville area.  Carla is employed by a veterinarian and has a great love for Quarter Horses. Nick is employed at Ford Motor Company.

On September 11, 2010, the beautiful passive park located at 11700 Main Street was dedicated and named “Marcie Willhite Community Park” in honor of her 30+ years continuous service.  She accepted this honor with humility and gratitude.
