"My guess is that this structure was originally used for ice storage. Before electricity and refrigeration, people would cut chunks of ice from rivers and streams in the winter time, then squirrel the ice away for use throughout the warmer months."

We saw our first loon of the season Sunday, March 21st in Feather Cove. Loons pause at Geist for R & R on their way north. From a distance they look like Canada geese, but ride lower in the water and their backs appear to have a checkerboard design. They dive to feed: one moment you see them, the next you don't!…

We lived in Upper Peninsula Michigan (average annual snowall 200+ inches) where locals move snow with a tool called a snow scoop. You push it but never lift it. We bought one online following a heavy snow storm here several years ago. You can see a demonstration video at http://www.silverbear.biz. We are happy with ours and several friends have also acquired one.
