Carmel, IN – Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) has been awarded the Darkness to Light Partner in Prevention distinction for 2011-2012. This is a prestigious certification showing CCPR’s commitment to keeping the children they serve safe and healthy. The guidelines for distinction include CCPR meeting the following criteria:
- At least 90% of employees have completed the Stewards of Children training
- New employees have been trained in a timely manner
- Maintained record of training to ensure staff renews training every three years
- Completed background checks on all employees prior to employment
- Ensure that one adult-one child situations are in settings are not private without being observable and interruptible
The Darkness to Light Partner in Prevention distinction shows parents/guardians, school personnel and the community that the organization is dedicated to fostering an environment that better protects children from sexual abuse. Darkness to Light is committed to prevention through training and having implemented appropriate policies designed to deter potential perpetrators. Staff training increases awareness and teaches how to recognize opportunities for abuse to occur as well as help recognize when abuse has occurred.
