Fraud Alert, SRI Inc. Selling Ads for Fishers High School Program

Jerry Stevens, owner of the Fishers Mail Post off of Allisonville Road, has been a long-time supporter of Fishers High School. His pack and ship retail location is in a strip mall just north of 116th which made him a prime victim for Shawn Davidson with SRI Inc. on January 31, 2012.

"He came in with some lady, I assumed they were a husband/wife team," said Stevens. "They pulled out a pocket folder that said 'Fishers High School' on the front and had sample ads and information in it."

Davidson told Stevens that they were working with Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School to produce a program that would be printed and given to every student in those schools. Davidson went on to say that "all the proceeds would benefit the school" and that the "expense is 100% tax deductible."

Stevens, standing in front of several Fishers High School posters and banners in his shop, agreed to a business card sized ad and negotiated the cost down $100 (from $299).

After the couple left, Stevens started feeling uneasy about the transaction and began reading the contract and noticed that the company was located in Delray Beach, Florida. He called the assistant principal at Fishers High School, Ryan Taylor.

"He said he knew of this company," Stevens said shaking his head with a stern smile. "We never authorized them to do this, we explicitly told them we did not want to participate because we didn't agree with their business tactics."

Stevens called SRI Inc. in Delray Beach.

"The guy on the phone with SRI said 'I don't know what you're talking about, I have a contract signed by Beth Duffy.'"

Beth Duffy is the receptionist at Fishers High School, she did not sign any such contract.

Stevens called his bank and stopped payment on his $100 check and informed two other local businesses that were also scammed to stop payment on their checks as well. He has also filed a police report with the Fishers Police Department, even though this is more of a civil complaint.

"If anyone else has been scammed by these guys, I'd suggest they stop payment on their checks, too," added Stevens. "I feel bad for falling for the scam, at least I didn't lose any money in the deal."
