Geist Fireworks Moving to Middle of the Reservoir, North of Marina

Spectators for this year's Geist fireworks will have more viewing options. Organizers announced today that the annual Fourth of July show will be moving from the island off of Admirals Sound to a barge just south of the Fall Creek Road bridge near the Geist Marina Village.

"The Fall Creek bridge will be closed from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for pedestrians to gather and watch the fireworks up close," said Brian Hall of the Geist Lake Coalition, the non-profit group that hosts the annual tradition.

Fireworks will be on the evening of Saturday, July 4th starting around dusk. While most spectators choose to watch the show from their boats, many crowd lakefront homes around the Reservoir. This year will mark the first time the fireworks have been shot from the middle of the 6-mile long reservoir giving more people more options for viewing.

To donate to the fireworks, please visit www.GeistLake.org or call Scott Rodgers at 826-9551.

While it may be the mid point physicaly it does not offer the largest number of home owners to view from their homes.

"bridge will be closed from 7:30 to 10:30" Won't that seriously hinder traffic? People will have to go south to 79th street or north to 116th to navigate around the lake. Is there another route? This closing needs lots of publicity.

Once again, Is anyone not concerned with the GAS PUMPS?

That's great, but pedestrians who live on the east side of the reservoir still can't walk to the bridge. The narrow section of Carroll Rd from 96th Street to the first entrance of Admiral's Bay has no sidewalks, ditches on both sides of the road, no shoulder to walk on, and is absolutely unsafe for walking or for bikeriding. I just don't understand why there can't be walking trails on the east side of the reservoir to connect the two sides. Would be great for energy conservation, family fitness, child safety, etc.

Guess I'll have to find a new spot to view the Big Show!

Trey, the barge will be north of the bridge approximately where the red IMI dredging boat is now.

The Balcony of IYC will be an excellent place to see them this year (second only to watching from your boat!)

I'm not sure I understand the new location. The article says the fireworks will launch from a barge north of the Fall Creek bridge, near Geist Marina Village, but Geist Marina Village is SOUTH of the bridge, is it not? So will the barge be located north or south of the bridge?

I agree, I've mentioned that several times. Yes, the PO Box is still active and correct.
