Aaron Corey’s enthusiasm for bicycles, games and drones is contagious.

As the owner of Geist Bike and Hobby, Corey surrounds himself with his favorite lines of bicycles, golf accessories and radio-controlled cars.

“I love starting a business where I can really enjoy everything I’m interested in,” Corey says. “I like talking to people who enjoy the same things I do, and we have been welcomed strongly by a lot of families in the Geist area. A lot of people expressed interest in the store before our soft opening in mid-October. I’m looking forward to helping families with their bike riding time.”

Corey and Manager Ben Peak enjoy being able to venture into two different market categories.

“The bicycles market has always been something I’ve been interested in since I was a kid,” Corey says. “My great grandfather owned a bicycle repair shop, and I helped out there a lot. I loved working there, and it was a big reason why I wanted to open this store. This has really been a vocation for me.”

Geist Bike and Hobby has a wide variety of bikes to chose from, including hybrids or neighborhood bikes.

“We have every type of bike, including Raleigh, Look and Orbea bikes,” Corey says. “We also offer all the accessories, including helmets, and we have a full-service bike repair shop.”

This includes an express service station for quick repairs, such as fixing flat tires, to other extensive repair jobs that may take a few days.

“We want to have you back out on your bike right away,” Corey says. “No one wants to be away from their bike for too long.”

Corey, who used to work in the IT field, stressed that he also wants to highlight the hobby side of the business.

“I’m really looking forward to the Christmas season when a lot of people will be buying hobby and toy gifts,” he says. “During certain seasons, I will be stocking more items for certain times of the year, such as kayaks, paddle boats, soccer balls and golf accessories in warm months and more board games and indoor hobby items in the winter.”

Other hobby equipment includes radio controlled cars, drones, model boats and airplanes, model trains, slot cars, educational kits, crafting supplies and home brewery accessories.

“The drones have been very popular,” Corey says. “They have been a big hit with both kids and adults. It’s a fun after-school and weekend thing. I love the way they have exploded in popularity.”

Corey plans to help the local Boy Scouts Pine Car Derby by setting up a test track in the store, too.

“I’ll have scale and testing areas, so kids and parents can weigh their cars to make sure the cars weigh under a certain amount fur the derby,” Corey says. “They can do that here, so they don’t have to go the post office to get the cars weighed.”

Whatever you may be passionate about, Corey says that it’s never too late to start a new hobby.

“I really encourage people to start a new way to relax by beginning a new hobby,” he says. “It’s a good way to take your mind off your troubles and take it easy. We really encourage a lot of families to come in and check out everything we have. I think everyone will love it.”
