Lawrence Central Students Throw Boston Tea Party

burr-tea-party.jpgInterdisciplinary studies (U.S history/American literature) students of Michael Burr and Richard Phillipy staged a Boston Tea Party in their classroom recently. Among them were juniors Alex Soltan, Taylor Szalaiy, Elizabeth Lahman and Jaron Herndon.

The presentation was to give students a visual idea of what the Boston Tea Party was about as the class discussed that time period in American history. The crates being thrown overboard from the Beaver, one of three ships involved in the original incident, were marked East India for the British East India Tea Company, the company to which the British government had given exclusive trade rights in the Colonies and the reason for the protest.
