The Lawrence Fire Department will once again host the city’s Annual Public Safety Day – a day of fun for all ages. This free event will feature exciting and informative events on Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at 59th and Lee Road, Station No. 4, located at Ft. Benjamin Harrison. There will be live demonstrations of auto extrication police K-9, SWAT scenario, and dive simulations. Other attractions include a safety house, rock climbing wall, clowns, Ronald McDonald, fingerprinting and ID cards for children, as well as vision screenings, blood pressure checks, and much more. Children’s bike helmets will be available at no charge while they last, and other items will be given away throughout the day. A medical transport helicopter will land and will be on display. There will be a special appearance by “M.C. Axe and the Fire Crew.” Police and fire apparatus will be on display and kids will have an opportunity to spray a simulated fire with a real fire hose. Anyone attending the 9th Annual Public Safety Day event will not only get a glimpse of what their police officers and firefighters do on a daily basis, they will also walk away with valuable tips on fire and crime prevention.
