As we all know, medical care in general and eyecare in particular have undergone a tremendous
change over the past 20 years with the rise of large national/regional corporate healthcare providers. In many instances, it seems as the providers got larger, the level of personal service declined. Today we are not surprised when the eye doctor we saw last visit is no longer there, and the level of personal service we have come to expect as patients is determined by the chain’s bottom line. Zionsville Eyecare was founded by Dr. James Haines at its present location of 1375 Parkway Dr. 16 years ago. For over 30 years, Dr. Haines and his staff have been dedicated to providing a superior patient experience at an affordable price to the Zionsville community. In order to provide that superior patient experience, Zionsville Eyecare understands and embraces the importance of building personal relationships with its patients and instilling that philosophy throughout its organization. One of the reasons Zionsville Eyecare has been so successful in building personal relationships with its patients is the continuity of its doctors and staff over the years and their involvement in the community. Not surprisingly, Dr. Haines’ roots in Zionsville run deep. He was raised in Zionsville and is a 1972 graduate of Zionsville Community High School (ZCHS). Dr. Haines and his wife of 29 years, Julie, raised two children in Zionsville and have a 14-month-old granddaughter. Dr. Haines actually began his practice over 30 years ago when he joined an existing practice in Zionsville fresh out of optometry school and after serving two years active duty in the US Navy as a medical service corps officer in Hawaii.
In 2000, Zionsville Eyecare hired a young man named Nick Garn as an optometric technician. At the time of his hire, Nick had just graduated from college. After working as a technician for Zionsville Eyecare for two years, Nick enrolled in optometry school, and upon his graduation in 2006, he rejoined Zionsville Eyecare as one of its doctors. Dr. Garn lives in Zionsville with his wife of 10 years, Julie, and their 2 1/2-year-old daughter. Dr. Garn has been a partner in Zionsville Eyecare with Dr. Haines since 2010.
Dr. Haines, Dr. Garn and their staff have been committed to service to their patients and the Zionsville area at large. Dr. Haines has been a member of the Zionsville Optimist Club for over 30 years. He has also been active in the Boys & Girls Club of Zionsville where he served as Board President and chairman of the club’s new building capital campaign. Dr. Garn and his wife have become very active in the Freedom Church of Lebanon’s youth ministry program known as “The Revolution.” This program provides services to 50-70 youths on a twice-weekly basis. Senior Optician Lenny Eastin received the distinguished “Dahlia Award” in 2009 from the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce for his contributions to the Zionsville community. Zionsville Eyecare has also been a long-time financial supporter and contributor to the ZCHS athletic and arts programs.
The quality of the eyecare is certainly important to providing a superior patient experience. To

Dr. Haines was named by the Indiana Optometric Association as the “Optometrist of the Year” in 2013, and Dr. Garn was named by the Association as Indiana’s “Outstanding Young Optometrist” in 2010.
The doctors are experienced in diagnosing and treating many eye conditions including dry eyes, ocular allergies, eye infections and injuries as well as working in collaboration with some of central Indiana’s best sub-specialist LASIK surgeons for LASIK, Eye Cataract Surgery, eyelid procedures and retinal surgery.
