In January, Avon welcomed Old Navy into its Avon Commons strip off U.S. 36, making many shoppers very happy.

The Grand Opening was on January 12, and General Manager Dawn Henry says they have had a lot of positive feedback and the community is excited they are here. Shoppers have been coming from all over Hendricks County.

“This is a great location,” Henry says. “We have already seen a lot more traffic than we originally expected, especially with the weather being back and forth.”

This location is unique because it has a brand-new layout compared to the other stories in the district. In fact, it’s the first layout of its kind for Old Navy. The open design, called a P3, is an open concept store with large openings in the walls, which is a big change from the segmented design most are used to seeing at the Plainfield store.

“It looks a lot more like a boutique than a regular Old Navy,” Henry says. “We have all new fixtures, new mannequins and a lot of different visuals like pegboards and little cubbies.”

The flow of the store moves shoppers from one “shop” to another with sections for each member of the family. Localized pricing is also a perk. Henry says many of the marked down units are cheaper than they are at the Traders Point location because the company considers what sells in certain areas and what doesn’t.

The store also features price checkers and in-store ordering. If there’s something a shopper can’t find, Old Navy staff can locate the item online and have it shipped for free. Online shopping also is even easier because online orders can be shipped straight from the store. Shoppers can also shop online from the comfort of home and pick up their order at the new Avon location.

Old Navy sells clothes for men, women, kids and babies, as well as active wear, maternity and women’s plus sizes. Spring wear and swimwear are already displayed for those thinking ahead to spring vacations or warmer weather.

Henry, who came from working at the Plainfield location, is loving the Avon store for a few reasons, one being she gets to work with all new associates.

“They are all excited to be at the new store,” Hendry says. “They’re all very passionate and they own it, and it’s fun to see that.”

In fact, this location is hiring daytime, evening and weekend associates. For those interested, visit Old Navy’s website at oldnavy.gap.com.

Henry also loves how involved Old Navy is in the community, and the Avon location will be no exception. As the District Community Leader, she has plans for the store to hold community events as well as for her staff to participate by volunteering with local organizations. Patrons can expect several local events this year at the Avon location, including a community-wide safety event which will feature local fire trucks, ambulances, police officers, police dogs and local organizations. There will also be a back-to-school event in the fall.

The store and associates also participate as a staff in community events, such as walking in the Pride Parade downtown each year with associates from Gap, Athleta and Banana Republic. Every summer, Old Navy partners with the Boys and Girls Club to run an “On the Job” event where they work with kids in the store for four to five hours, training them, doing fashion shows and having fun.

During the holidays, the store will adopt a local family. Old Navy is also highly involved with the Ross Foundation on the East side of Indianapolis, supporting them through donations and backpack drives. Photos are displayed from some of their events on a community board in the back of the store near the water fountain.

“We are big on volunteering,” Hendry says. “Every time we volunteer 25 hours toward an organization, they get a $250 donation from us.”

Kelli Beckman is a Senior Merchandise Manager and has been with Old Navy for 14 years. She is also thrilled to be a part of the Avon location.

“Come see us,” Beckman says.

She has worked at five other Old Navy stores, and she’s excited to be part of the Avon community.

“The visuals here just make the concept within the clothing come to life,” she says. “It’s a clear, concise circle so you can hit the whole family, which is really nice.”

Beckman and Henry have high hopes for the Avon location and are excited to meet new customers.

“We are getting so much excitement from our customers,” Beckman adds. “It just drives us to be the best that we can be.”

Old Navy is located at 10115 E. US Highway 36 in Avon. You can give them a call at 317-209-9434.
