Bright Side Dental Indianapolis is proud to have Dr. Matthew Mullally on its winning team. Dr. Mullally recently moved to the Hoosier State to help anchor the new Indianapolis office. Together with Dr. Gretter Cardo, Bright Side Dental Indianapolis’s talented orthodontist, they form one of the most skilled and friendly dental duos around.
Dr. Mullally, originally from Port Huron, Michigan, was the second oldest in a family of nine children. In addition to excelling in academics, he was also active in the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. The medical profession seemed a natural career path for Dr. Mullally since both of his parents were family practice physicians, and his older brother is finishing up his residency in Fort Wayne.
Dr. Mullally escaped the frozen landscape of Michigan to earn his undergraduate degree from Ave Maria University in Florida. While in college, he was a member of the soccer team. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Detroit Mercy. At U of D, he graduated in the top of his class and earned several plaudits, including the coveted Pediatric Dentistry Clinical Excellence Award. He was also inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.
Dr. Mullally is married with three young children ages 3, 2 and under 1-year-old. He and his family recently moved to the Indianapolis area following a period in which he worked in one of Bright Side’s offices in Michigan. Even with the time constraints that come with having three very young children and a growing dental practice, Dr. Mullally is looking forward to getting involved in the local community and still plays soccer in the local adult league.
One of the things that Dr. Mullally emphasizes in his dental practice is personal care. This begins with the first meeting with a new patient. He said that his initial interview with a patient is probably two to three times longer than those of many offices normally provide. Dr. Mullally works hard to ensure that the patient feels comfort and to ease the anxiety some patients have about seeing a dentist.
Dr. Mullally said, “I do work with a lot with very anxious patients that have not seen a dentist for quite a while. I have had a number of patients that have gone to other dentists that were told that they really need to be sedated. Because we are able to really connect with them during the initial interview and also by performing a series of smaller procedures initially, we are able to work up to doing the larger procedure without sedation.” He said he’s “proud to work at Bright Side Dental where I have all the resources I need to give our patients the best care and experience possible.”
