Pumpkins and Treats for a Sweet Cause: Riley Hospital for Children

Your mother told you an apple a day kept the doctors away, but did you know pumpkins will get you an afternoon filled with IU Health physicians and a whole lot of special treats all for Riley’s Kids?

Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health North Hospital and RE/MAX Legends Group organizes a pumpkin patch event each year to raise funds for Riley Hospital for Children. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, and is free to the public. Drawing in an estimated crowd of 5,000 to 8,000 people, this annual event continues to grow in popularity, as do the donations they receive at the conclusion of this three-hour event held in Carmel, Ind. All of the proceeds collected are donated to Riley. Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health North Hospital puts the area’s best children’s doctors within the reach of local residents.

Bec Hunter, the event organizer and Realtor & Media/PR Director for RE/MAX Legends, has been organizing this event since 2003.

“It’s hard to believe, but another year has rolled around and it’s time to plan our annual Pumpkin Patch Festival,” Hunter announced. “RE/MAX Legends Group is in general, a big supporter of Riley Hospital for Children thru the Children’s Miracle Network.”

Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $5 billion for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Their mission is to increase funds and awareness for local children’s hospitals.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are dedicated to saving the lives of kids in their communities. According to their website, CMN states “62 children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute — one child every second. Some are battling cancer. Some are suffering from a traumatic injury. Others require constant care because they were born too early, or with a genetic disease.” Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are steadfast in their commitment to serve their communities and always have their doors open.

“The total contributions to the CMN, from our RE/MAX of Indiana agents in 2013, was an amazing $174,909.87,” Hunter said. “Our agents can donate out of commissions that we make.”

RE/MAX of Indiana honored their RE/MAX associates and offices for their donations to the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals last year at an awards celebration at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.

“Together we can make a difference,” Hunter concluded. “Along with the public’s help, we can touch the lives of families who benefit daily from the care provided by Riley Hospital for Children.”

The event will feature fun and educational activities for the whole family in the North parking lot and Atrium of IU Health North and will include fun games such as a life size “Operation” game, surgical services booth that teaches first aid and procedures, caricature artist, petting zoo, face painting, lunch tent, bounce house, train rides, prize giveaways and a free pumpkin for each child (while supplies last). Monetary donations for Riley Hospital for Children are accepted. The event will be from noon to 3:00 p.m. at IU Health North located at 116th and Meridian in Carmel, Ind.
