17 Organizations Receive Funding to Further Their Work in the Johnson County Community

The Johnson County Community Foundation is supporting the vital work of 17 organizations that are responding to the many needs in the Johnson County Community.  The Foundation’s Spring 2014 grant awards includes funding for arts/culture, community & economic development, education, seniors, health & human services and youth programs.

The Johnson County Community Foundation’s grant awards, which total $56,912.00, reflect the Foundation’s mission to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Johnson County.

“We are proud to support such an amazing group of nonprofits that are leaders in meeting the diverse needs of the community,” said John Shell, grants chair of the Johnson County Community Foundation.  “We believe that supporting our local organizations is a critical step to helping build a better, brighter future for our community and economic development.”

Organization Quick Summary Amount Granted
Baxter YMCA Funds will be used for program supplies for the LIVESTRONG and Diabetes Prevention programs. $1,000.00
Boy Scouts of America – Crossroads of America Council Registration Assistance, Camperships, Uniform Assistance, and Boy’s Life. $5,000.00
City of Greenwood: Parks and Recreation To purchase bikes and bike locks for the City to start a “Rent-a-Bike” program in Greenwood. $3,912.00
Community Involvement in Learning/Franklin Education Connection Funds will be used for branding purposes to develop a new logo, create a new website, and print brochures. $2,000.00
Edinburgh Ministerial Association Funds to be used to purchase a new refrigerator/freezer for the pantry. $2,000.00
Girls Inc. of Johnson County Installation of ADA bathroom. $5,000.00
Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Inc. Provide nutritious food for children in Johnson County receiving sacks of weekend food through Gleaners Food Bank’s BackSacks program. $10,000.00
Humane Society of Johnson County Funds will go towards website design and redevelopment. $2,500.00
Indiana FFA Leadership Center Funding would go towards reducing the cost of school groups to attend field trips to the Leadership Center that includes a low rope course. $5,000.00
Interchurch Food Pantry Help purchase a box truck in order to pick up more donated food in an efficient manner. $5,000.00
Johnson County Gobblers- National Wild Turkey Federation Funds will provide frozen turkeys to families in need. $1,000.00
Johnson County Public Library Hit the Road…READ program. To purchase books and assist with publicity. $3,000.00
Johnson County Soil & Water Conservation District Funds will be used to purchase a working model of a septic tank for the organization to be used when presenting information to the community. $1,500.00
St. Thomas Clinic Fund transportation services for patients to access care and medication at the clinic. $1,000.00
Tara Treatment Center Facelift to Ann’s restaurant, funds will go towards the framing. $2,500.00
The Refuge Purchase 6 laptops and one additional computer. $3,000.00
The Social of Greenwood Purchase a defibrillator. Assist in getting the Social to ADA compliance in its restrooms. $3,500.00
