Areas “Taste”iest Event
The annual Taste of the Southside, sponsored by Community Health Network and the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce attracted more than 1,000 hungry residents to the event. 42 area businesses provided samples of the usual restaurant favorites, treats such as ice cream filled cannoli; wines, microbrews, and even home delivered dairy products.
The “Taste” also awarded several prizes including “Best Chef,” “Best Booth Décor” and “Best of the Taste.” Winner of the “Best Chef” was Chef Greg Schiesser from Indiana Downs as the “Best Chef” based on plate presentation, flavor, portion size, and how creatively a bag of secret ingredients was used. The contest included four chefs. Other participants were Chef Mike Heller, Main Street Grille, Chef Donovan Koester, Augustino’s Italian Restaurant, and defending champion Chef Richard Goss of Richard’s Brick Oven Pizza in Franklin.
Hal’s Fabulous Las Vegas continued to win multiple awards. For the fifth year in a row they won “Best Booth Décor” and for the third time in a row “Best of the Taste.” Hal’s served lobster bisque, Black Jack Martinis, Creamsicle Martinis, and Tio Tigre Martinis.
For the third year in a row, attendance at the event passed the 1,000 mark. Christian Maslowski, Executive Director of the Chamber said, “We are so glad we could have this opportunity to highlight so many great area businesses and allow residents to find out the variety of options they have in our community.” This is the 21st “Taste of the Southside,” Event proceeds help underwrite the Chamber’s programs and operations.
