Community Angels Black & White Ball

Angels-Logo.115Community Angels is one of the latest “from the heart” assistance organizations in Johnson County. They provide services to families battling illness or disease, to help lessen their stress or burdens at home. They help those in need throughout Johnson County.

Last year’s first large fundraiser, the Inaugural Community Angels Black & White Ball, was a wonderful success. The organization expected 80-100 people to attend, to their delight, nearly 200 joined the Ball, and they raised $16,000.

The 2nd Annual Community Angels Black & White Ball will be held Saturday March 2, 2013. Community Angels hopes to repeat, or improve on, last year’s event. They are currently seeking monetary donations as well as Sponsors for the Black & White Ball. (See this brochure for more details on the event.)

While they are currently operating only in Johnson county, the ultimate goal is to be able to extend Community Angels to other counties in Indiana, either by finding individuals to start a branch of Community Angels in their own counties, or to becoming own 501(c)3 and help others in surrounding counties.

Currently the fund works through Johnson County Community Foundation, which allows for tax-deductible gifts. They handle all monies, taxes, as well as serve as the board of directors.

Last December Community Angels produced a newsletter (click to view) to tell of a few families helped in the past six months, and highlight last year’s Black & White Ball.

This past Christmas they  gave “Holiday Joy” baskets to three families who are dealing with illness, one has a four-year-old battling Leukemia, another a mother who is dealing with a spinal disorder that required surgery with an 8 week recovery, and another for a family of four struggling with complications from breast cancer. The filled the baskets with gas cards, grocery cards, restaurant certificates, and more, just “little things” to brighten their days and to help in the daily struggle to keep up. Sometimes picking up dinner to go after a long day can be huge for a struggling family. Currently they are serving two other families by helping with house cleaning while enduring medical treatment.

You can help by attending this year’s Black & White Ball. Tickets for the event are $65 each, including dinner. While they have been encouraged by others to raise the price, they have resisted this so even those on a limited budget can be a part of an elegant, wonderful, fund-raising event. Many people would like the ability to be a part of giving and helping as well as enjoying the Black & White Ball. If they can get donations and sponsors to cover the event, ticket sales will go directly to “Community Angels” and helping families.
