Center Grove on Parade: Scrapbook of the Road to Macy’s

Organized by Tonja Talley . Photographer / John Simon

On Thanksgiving morning of this past year, the marching band of Center Grove High School (CGHS) represented our city and state in the iconic 88th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was the band’s history that brought about a personal performance invitation from Macy’s a short 20 months ago. But the goal, tagged the Road to Macy’s, was completed by the sheer perseverance, spirit, and generosity of both today’s band and its community. The 2014-15 Trojan band lived out their aspirations as they set out down the streets of Manhattan at the sound of the time honored catchphrase, “Let’s Have a Parade.” Summing up the band’s Road to Macy’s, senior head drum major Christopher Crowder stated, “Participation in the Macy’s parade was so surreal. It all seemed like a dream until we took the first step of the 2.6 mile journey.”

Come and experience a glimpse of their journey, as seven of the 164-member band reminisce about their Road to Macy’s.
