Come participate in all things parks! Join us with feedback about our programs, trails, facilities or any topic you would like our department to address. Mayor Mark W. Myers summarized it well in the State of the City address last week:

“Successful communities have strong parks and recreation departments. Property tax caps have crippled parks departments all over the state. Our parks lost over $600,000 in tax revenue as a result of the circuit breaker law. In 2013, we began focusing on the challenges facing parks. Our Director, Rob Taggart, has streamlined management and is working with the controller to enhance program revenue and control expenses. In 2014, we adopted new rate structures which are more fair, more efficient and better allocate the costs of programs and facilities to those who use them. We are working with our sister communities and the county to enhance our trail system. The most popular activity in this country is walking, and trails are among the most desired amenities for high value businesses. The marketing and management of our shelters and amphitheater will be enhanced to increase usage and revenue. Our Parks Director is also exploring opportunities for the new Worthsville Road corridor and national programs such as TreeCity USA and Playful City.”

Now you know what we’ve been up to, let’s work together to make our parks better.
