The Fifth Annual Joseph Maley Foundation 5K Run, Walk, Roll Serving Children of All Abilities takes place on Saturday, July 13 at Eagle Creek Park. Since this event’s inception in 2009, it has quickly become known as central Indiana’s premier summer 5K. More than 1,000 participants, supporters, and volunteers from throughout Central Indiana will be in attendance this summer.
The JMF 5K Run, Walk, Roll fosters both a competitive and family-friendly environment. Participants can elect to compete in the chip-timed five-kilometer course—last year’s winner, Drake Sterling finished in 15:27—or enjoy an untimed two-mile walk. Individuals who are in wheelchairs are eligible to participate in either course (hence the “roll” in our event name). Participants and fans also enjoy a host of activities on site, including live music, a kiddie dash, and face painting. Some of our youngest guests at the 5K complete the course in a stroller or wagon (even more “rolling”).
In addition to fostering a community of individuals of all abilities, the 5K is the principal annual fundraiser for the Joseph Maley Foundation. The work of JMF is to build acceptance of all individual through our programs that engender compassion and respect for the diversity of life in support of our mission, “serving children of all abilities.” You can learn more about Joseph’s story here.
