Larry May Helps you Sleep Better
May Mattress Company
Most fall evenings in Center Grove are quiet and restful. Cool weather makes it great for sleeping maybe even with the window open. There is another reason you can sleep better in Center Grove regardless of the time of year. Local resident Larry May’s family business, May Mattress has been handcrafting mattresses since 1952 when his dad George May started it. Recently Larry opened a Factory Showroom, good news for nearby residents who can now buy directly from the source and save. Larry offers luxurious mattresses for half of regular retail prices!
On a recent Friday, I took a drive up State Road 135 to the May Factory and Showroom about 15-20 minutes north of Center Grove. Nestled in a residential area I found a massive factory bustling with expert craftsmen who create a wide variety of Memory Foam mattresses. Larry gave me a brief history of the company and showed me around, including the beautiful showroom where I could actually “experience” the various comfort levels. Larry really enjoys showing everyone his unique business. Larry treats every customer the same, an online review says, “I was actually helped by the owner!” May has family members involved in every aspect of the business.
When Memory Foam hit the market, Larry saw an opportunity for a better bed. Tempurpedic recognized it at about the same time. Memory Foam solves many of the coil spring problems: sagging, noise, transmitting movement to your partner and in many cases sore shoulders, necks and backs. Memory Foam fits your body whether you are a side, back or stomach sleeper; the bed adjusts to you. May Mattress utilize only foam products produced in the United States, helping a number of small manufacturers around the country.
As foam, improved May Mattress was quick to upgrade their product. When Gel Memory Foam was introduced, it created a cooler feel so Larry incorporated it into one of May’s mattresses. “Eyelet ventilators” around the sides of the bed allow fresh air to flow through the mattress keeping it cooler and fresher. “Pillow Top” models are plentiful and provide an extra layer of comfort. May also creates “custom” beds such as an extra long version for former pacer Rik Smits, a heart-shaped mattress, or a custom-made bed for a motor home.
May’s quality, comfort, and creativity are evident – but they come at a lower price, as Larry May states “a much much lower price than you will pay for a comparable mattress anywhere because you eliminate retail mark-ups when you shop their Factory Showroom.” Your absolute comfort is a “guarantee” from the owner.
A better night’s sleep is waiting just a short trip up State Road 135. Turn right at the “May Mattress” truck on the corner of Adler and Meridian (a few blocks north of Raymond St), another right on Delaware and you will find the May Mattress Factory & Showroom. Buying a mattress is not an indulgence it is a necessity. You can rest assured that a new May Mattress will improve the quality of your life with a renewed energy and an all around healthier feeling.
