Local Students, Families in Commercial

Students, families, and faculty members at Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School experienced commercial filming firsthand Thursday morning as they were actors and extras in a Dixie Chopper commercial filmed on location at the Southside school. The commercial is being produced by Joe and Dave Herbert of the award-winning company Herbert Brothers Entertainment in Batesville, Indiana. The Herbert brothers filmed a Doritos commercial that won them $1 million in the Doritos Super Bowl 2009 contest and have produced other commercials for companies such as Pepsi Max, Go Daddy, and Faygo.

The SSFC 5/6 Grade Soccer team played a major part in the commercial as an on-screen soccer team. SSFC parent Isaac Garcia played the part of their coach and had a speaking line. Families and faculty members were “extras” in the soccer stands.

The school’s relationship with the production company began in January when the Herbert brothers shared some of their trade secrets with SSFC middle school students as a part of a project-based-learning assignment the students were working on. The students were asked to film their own commercials for social justice using advertising techniques similar to those used in Super Bowl commercials. The Herberts did a question and answer session with them as a part of the students’ research.

Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School has close to 400 students and is a part of Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church located at the corner of Mullinix and Olive Branch Roads in Greenwood.
