‘Crossroads’ Offers Style for Those Who’ve Crossed into Midlife

“I have nothing to wear” may be the world’s oldest lament. These days, the complaint can sound outdated, given the abundance of clothing
available everywhere. But for some midlife-and-older women, dressing stylishly remains a challenge as designers relentlessly court the young.

Well ladies, look no further. This month the Catwalk Posse sauntered into “Crossroads of Fashion,” located at 96th Street and Allisonville Road. This store is a classic find for the mature woman. They carry everything from casual wear to cruise wear with a flair!

Owner Sandy Rosenthal described her target customer as a woman in her late 30’s, although most of the fashions will appeal to the 45-plus
crowd that appreciates the latest trends at an affordable price. They carry so many lines that we’ll just name a few… Nic and Zoe, Sharon Young, 600 West, Pure and Company, Ash and Sara, along with a beautiful line of jackets by Stillman Studio. Prices range from $40 up to $300, and sizes ranging from 2-18, with limited quantities on either end. From bedazzeled pieces, Colts wear, jeans and faux fur jackets, Crossroads of Fashion is the place to find that unusual one-of-a-kind item. In addtion, they carry an extensive line of accessories that are scattered throughout the store and are showcased very nicely with a barrage of scarfs, belts, sunglasses and jewelery. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind shoe, they’re one of two retailers in Indianapolis that carries the Onex line.

The store doesn’t have glitzy trappings, but it does have a comfortable layout. And—good news if you’re trying clothes on—the roomy dressing rooms are a pleasure compared to some of the other boutiques we’ve all visited. In addition, the layout allows you room to browse, unlike other stores that cram as much merchandise as possible into a small space. While the Posse was shopping (and trying on clothes, of course), the staff offered suggestions with colors, textures and accessories…the personal touch was fabulous.

Sandy’s “must have” list for Fall includes stylish and tailored suits. If you love to just wear black, she suggests you re-think your approach.
She believes big, bold colors will be in style, along with the tailored look reminiscent of the ‘60s that Jackie O made famous.

A couple of top secret tips from The Posse…The owner accepts special orders on any item, the store has a drawing once a month for a $50 gift
certificate, and (one feature that we loved) they have a continuous 50 percent-off sale rack that’s worth checking out!

Oh, and to the men in our lives, if you end up in this store, you’ll find yourself sinking into a comfy sofa while being offered a beverage by the staff. Nice touch!
